A fair checklist

Switching keto trackers? What to compare.

Changing apps is the moment to decide what your tracker has to do. These are eight questions worth asking any keto tracker, each with KetoNoir's own answer, so every app you try is held to the same list.

  1. Does the coach write your log, or only chat?

    Why it matters

A chatbot answers from general knowledge and does not know your day. A coach that reads and writes your log answers from your own numbers and saves what you tell it.

    Ask

    • Does it see today's food log without you pasting it in?
    • Can it save a meal or a reading from chat, and does it ask before saving?
    • Can you see and delete what it remembers about you?

    KetoNoir's answer

The KetoNoir coach reads today's log, your totals for the previous 7 days, how they compare with the 7 days before, and your logged readings, on every turn. It logs food, weight, glucose, ketones, blood pressure and a cholesterol panel after you confirm, and its memory can be viewed and deleted item by item. Replies are written by Anthropic's Claude, and the coach says it is AI.

  2. How much of your history do you keep?

    Why it matters

Keto is judged over weeks, not days. A free plan that hides older entries, or charts that stop at a month, cut the trend line you switched apps to see.

    Ask

    • How far back can you see your food log on the free plan?
    • How long a window do the trend charts show?
    • What happens to your history if you stop paying?

    KetoNoir's answer

Your full food log history stays on every plan, Free included. Trends for weight, ketones, glucose and GKI show 7, 30, 90 or 365 days on both plans. If Premium ends, your logs, readings, recipes and meal plans stay in your account. KetoNoir does not import another app's food log, so meals start fresh; recent weight, glucose and blood pressure readings in Apple Health or Health Connect come in through the Premium connection.

  3. Are net carbs their own number?

    Why it matters

Keto runs on net carbs. If an app only stores total carbs, or works net carbs out differently on different screens, the number you steer by drifts.

    Ask

    • Can you set a daily net carb target?
    • Does every food, recipe and restaurant item show net carbs?
    • Are total carbs and fiber kept as well, so you can check the math?

    KetoNoir's answer

KetoNoir stores net carbs, total carbs and fiber as three separate numbers on every entry, and shows net carbs in gold against your daily target. Net carbs are total carbohydrate minus fiber, wherever the source carries a fiber value.

  4. Is there a place for blood ketones and GKI?

    Why it matters

If you test with a meter, your readings belong next to your food. Be careful with any claim that ketones sync from Apple Health or Health Connect: neither one has a blood ketone type.

    Ask

    • Can you log blood ketones and glucose, and chart them?
    • Does it work out your glucose ketone index for you, including from glucose in mg/dL?
    • Can you log urine strips, if that is what you use?

    KetoNoir's answer

Blood ketones (0 to 12 mmol/L) and glucose go in by hand or through the coach, urine strips are logged by color, and GKI is calculated automatically whenever a glucose and a ketone reading are both present, with the mg/dL conversion done for you. Blood pressure, weight and a full cholesterol panel are tracked too, on every plan.

  5. How fast is it to log a meal?

    Why it matters

The tracker you keep using is the one that is quick to fill in. Look at how food gets in, not only at how it is displayed.

    Ask

    • Is barcode scanning on the free plan, and how many scans a day?
    • Does a scan check more than one database, and flag numbers that do not add up?
    • Can it estimate a plate from a photo, take your voice, or pull from restaurant menus?

    KetoNoir's answer

Search, voice and 176 US restaurant chains are free and unlimited. Barcode scanning is on Free at 2 scans a day, counting only scans that find a product, with a higher limit on Premium. Each scan checks fatsecret, USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts together and flags results whose calories do not add up from their macros. Snap a Meal estimates a whole plate from one photo on Premium, and the coach can log a meal you describe in plain words.

  6. Is your language fully supported?

    Why it matters

If you cook, shop or think in Spanish, a translated menu bar is not enough. The coach, the recipes and the instructions need to be in your language too.

    Ask

    • Does the coach answer in Spanish when you write in Spanish?
    • Are recipe names and cooking steps translated, or only the buttons?
    • Are the legal consent screens in Spanish?

    KetoNoir's answer

Every screen, every coach reply and all 289 KetoNoir recipes, with their cooking instructions, are in English and Spanish, and so are the consent screens. The 3,800+ fatsecret recipes are in English, with an on-device button that translates them.

  7. What does the free tier really cover?

    Why it matters

Free can mean a full tracker or a trial in disguise. The difference shows up in history limits, locked recipes and what the paid plan costs.

    Ask

    • Is there a time limit on the free plan?
    • Is history capped, or are recipes locked?
    • What does the paid plan cost, and is there a free trial?

    KetoNoir's answer

KetoNoir Free has no time limit. It includes unlimited manual logging with your full history, trends up to 365 days, all 289 KetoNoir recipes and 3,800+ from fatsecret, blood ketone, glucose and urine strip logging, 2 barcode scans a day, and the AI coach with a small daily message allowance. Premium is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year in the app, or $8.99 and $53.99 on the web, with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers. It adds the Metabolic Forecast, Snap a Meal and the other photo scans, body composition, saved meal plans, Apple Health and Health Connect sync, and higher daily limits.

  8. How is your data handled?

    Why it matters

A food and health log is personal. Read what an app shares, with whom, and whether advertising is part of the business.

    Ask

    • Does the app run ad networks or ad trackers?
    • Does it sell your data?
    • Can you see and delete what its AI remembers?

    KetoNoir's answer

No ad networks and no ad trackers. One partner link (Keto-Mojo meters) appears in the app, with a disclosure. KetoNoir does not sell your data, and the coach's memory can be viewed and deleted item by item. The Privacy Policy names the service providers that receive data.
